Add Smith, age 77, a resident of 1109 McArthur Steet, died Saturday March 1, 2014 at his home. Born December 21, 1936 in Harnett Co., he was the son of the late Josephine Wilson Smith and Joel Benjamin Smith. Mr. Smith was a retired welder for Gamewell Mechanical in Salisbury.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 pm in the J. M. White Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Frank Sossoman. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery.
He is survived by his wife Beatrice Hedgepeth Smith of the home; three daughters, Lynn S. Woodlief and husband Alridge and Jane S. Duncan all of Henderson and Addie S. Batten and husband David of Oxford; one son, Patrick Smith of Raleigh; two sisters, Jessie S. Roberts of Creedmor and Nellie Baker of Raleigh; six grandchildren; and two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one sister Clara S. Jones and one brother Henry Smith.
The family will receive friends Tuesday prior to the service from 12:30 until 2:00 at the J. M. White Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the home.
Serving as active pall bearers will be Jason Overby, Eddie Perry, Troy Overby, Steve Pernell, Scott Pernell, and Will Pernell. Honorary pall bearers will be Marvin Ross and Al Wortham.
