Agnes Mclemore Dodd

CHAPEL HILL- Agnes Vann McLemore Dodd, 90, a former resident of Henderson, passed away peacefully the evening of September 19, 2022, at UNC Pittsboro Hospice Home. Born February 26, 1932, in Bertie County, she was the daughter of the late Amos Leslie McLemore and Agnes Brown McLemore. She was the widow of Claude Swanson Dodd, Jr., her high school sweetheart with whom she shared a wonderful life for 63 years. Mrs. Dodd was an East Carolina graduate and elementary school teacher before embarking on a life of service as a military spouse. She was a member of First United Methodist Church Henderson. Her personal interests included playing bridge, decorating, participating in San Souci Club, and hosting various supper clubs and celebrations as she loved to entertain. A graveside funeral service will be held Monday, September 26, 2022, at 11:00 AM in Elmwood Cemetery by Rev. George Loveland. Family will receive friends at a reception in the fellowship hall of First United Methodist Church after the graveside service. In addition to her parents and her husband, Agnes was preceded in death by her oldest son, Claude Swanson Dodd, III; and a brother, Amos L. McLemore, Jr. She is survived by her son, Richard Young Dodd, and wife Emma, of Charlotte; her daughter, Rebekah Dodd Arrington and husband, Mark, of Chapel Hill; her seven granddaughters, Meredith Hillyer, Ashley Ireland and husband, Brett, Carrie Newton and husband, Tom, all of Annapolis, MD, Mary Dodd of Augusta, GA, Claudia Koch and husband, Alex, and Rebekah Dodd, both of Charlotte, and Rachel Arrington of Chapel Hill; seven great grandchildren, James Hillyer, Caroline Hillyer, Chip Ireland, Jackson Ireland, Brook Ireland, Elizabeth Newton and Matthew Newton; two sisters, Nancy M. Ayscue-Moody of Henderson and Kay M. Scarborough of Virginia Beach, VA; and a daughter-in-law, Jeanette Meredith of Pittsburgh, PA. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to First United Methodist Church, 114 Church Street, Henderson, NC 27536 or the SECU Jim and Betsy Bryan Hospice Home of UNC Health Care, 100 Roundtree Way, Pittsboro, NC 27312.
