KITTRELL- Alba Josephine Rowland Stone, of Bobbitt Road died Tuesday, November 12, 2019 at Duke Hospital.Born in Franklin County on November 4, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Wilbur Alred "Sport" Rowland and Nina Josephine Broadwell Rowland.She was the widow of Reginald Hunt "Shine" Stone, Sr.Alba graduated from Epsom High School and attended East Carolina's Teachers College, now East Carolina University.She was a member of Union Chapel United Methodist Church.She was a homemaker and farmed with her husband for almost forty years.She worked in tobacco from planting to sale.She drove tractors, raked hay and up until age ninety could be seen with her straw hat and red mower cutting her lawn. Alba was an excellent cook and seamstress.She had ninety-four years of great joys and almost unbearable sadness, but she coped, accepted and moved on.Alba was a loving mother, grandmother and friend, and will truly be missed by all.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, December 7, 2019 at 2 pm at Union Chapel United Methodist Church by the Rev. Shane Benjamin and the Rev. Carolyn Roy. The family will receive friends following the service at the church.
She is survived by her daughter, Linda Jo Stone Barefoot of the home and Midlothian, VA; seven grandchildren, Bradley Barefoot, Regina Barefoot Phillips (Pete), Brian Barefoot (Bethany), Kelly Stone Teran, Reginald Hunt Stone, III (Jessica), Kendall Stone Roberts (Adam) and Kimberly Stone; six great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Ashley Barefoot, Matthew Stone Barefoot, Gavin Parks Stone, William Hunt Barefoot, Julia Paige Barefoot and Carter Joanne Phillips.She is also survived by her sister, Frances Rowland Roberts of Henderson; five nephews, Bill Rowland, Alan Rowland (Teresa), Gene Roberts (Missy), Glenn Roberts (Bobbi Jo), and Doug Roberts; one niece, Debbie Rowland; and one great-nephew, Kevin Roberts.
In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Reginald Hunt "Reggie" Stone, Jr. and her brother, William Broadwell Rowland.
