Alice "Jo" Josephine Woodlief Ellington

Alice Josephine “Jo” Woodlief Ellington, 90, died Saturday, July 1, 2023 at a local nursing home. Born May 1, 1933 in Granville County, she was the daughter of the late Susie Fuller Woodlief and Archibald “Archie” Hall Woodlief, and was the widow of Lawrence Marshall Ellington. She was a member of Hester Baptist Church in Granville County and attended Freedom Life Church of God. A graveside funeral service will be held Friday, July 7, 2023 at 3:00 PM in the Poplar Creek Baptist Church Cemetery by Rev. Jeff Prewer. She is survived by two daughters, Sandra Woodlief (H. A.) and Sharon Ayscue both of Henderson; one son, Steve Ellington of Henderson; six grandchildren, Ryan Woodlief, Graham Woodlief (Megan), Craig Edwards, Haley Ellington, Kristen Keeton (Marty) , and Kyle Ellington; six great grandchildren, Amani Woodlief, Brodie Woodlief, Abby Keeton, Luke Keeton, Josiah Ellington, and Ashton Ellington; and one sister-in-law, Lucille Woodlief. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Michael Ellington; five brothers, Raymond Woodlief, Burley Woodlief, Roy Woodlief, Nelson Woodlief, and Dorsey Woodlief; three sisters, Ruth Cabaniss, Elizabeth Oakley, and Ila Carter; and one grandson, Mitchell Edwards.
