Allie Slaugther Bowen

d. Feb 3, 2020

HENDERSON-Allie Leigh Slaughter Bowen passed away on February 3, 2020 after a short stay at Maria Parham Hospital. Allie was born on April 3, 1931, in Granville County. She was a homemaker, loving wife, mother to seven children, and was also blessed with eight grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and one on the way. She was a widower to Edwin L. Bowen Sr, they were United in Marriage for 46yrs. Ms. Bowen was a faithful member of Hillcrest Baptist Church. Homecomings and covered dish gatherings were without a doubt to be attended with lots of home cooking. She loved anything to do with nature and the outdoors. She could name every tree, leaf, flower & weed almost. You could always find her on that riding lawn mower or raking up pine-straw to put around her flowers and shrubs. All with a smile on her face! When the local county fair was in town you can bet she would have multiple entries from her canned tomatoes, a variety of preserves, & her many rose bushes. She would be beaming with pride for all the ribbons she would collect ! Sweet memories she loved to share.
A memorial service will be held Sunday February 16, 2020 at 2pm at Island Creek Baptist Church by the Rev. Johnny Yount.
She is survived by four children; Barbara L. Nelson, Wesley D. Bowen, Patrick S. Bowen, Joy L. Bowen; and one brother Robert Slaughter.
She was preceded in death by her children; Edwin L. Bowen Jr., Betsy E. Bowen, Herbert C. Bowen.
The family will receive friends immediately the service.
