Alton Leon Abbott, age 76, a resident of 237 Buckskin Lane, Henderson died Tuesday, September 15, 2015 at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston Salem.Born November 10, 1938 in Vance County, he was the son of the late Malcoin Abbott and Daisy Mae Mangum Abbott.He was the owner and operator of Abbotts Switching Service and was a member of Living Stones Church of God where he served as an usher, greeter, and was a member of the Sanctuary Sunday School Class.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 2:00 PM at South Henderson Pentecostal Holiness Church by Rev. Frank Sossamon and the Rev. Milton Abbott. Burial will follow in the New Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery.
Mr. Abbott is survived by his son, Brad Abbott (Carol) of Henderson; three sisters, Peggy A. Clayton and Nancy A. Edwards of Henderson and Rose A. Gutano of West Jefferson; two brothers, Wade Abbott of Henderson and Carl Abbott of Creston; two grandchildren, Chris Abbott (April) and Jessica Abbott; two great grandchildren, Tanner Lee Abbott and Emma Grace Abbott; and his friend, Rosalie Williams.
He was preceded in death by a son, Barry Lee Abbott.
The family will receive friends Thursday night from 7:00 PM till 8:30 PM at J.M. White Funeral Home.At other times they will be at the home of Brad and Carol Abbott, 950 Peter Gill Road, Henderson.
Serving as pallbearers will be Andy Roberson, Ronnie Allen, D.H. Edwards, Johnny Russell, Ronnie Briggs, and Tom Mangum.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Alton Abbott Funeral Fund, C/O J.M. White Funeral Home, 60 Zeb Robinson Road, Henderson, NC 27536.
