HENDERSON- Alton Henry Harp, 83, of N. Lynnbank Road, peacefully joined his wife of 63 years in their Heavenly home on Tuesday, January 2, 2024. Born May 14, 1940, in Vance County, he was the son of the late Jamie Grissom Harp and Genie Marvin Harp and was the widower of June Lawson Harp. He was a member of Trinity Church of the Living God where he was active with the Trinity Singers. He worked with Stainback Metal Works, was the owner of the former Al’s Heating and Air Conditioning, and retired from Public Service of North Carolina. After his retirement, “Al” enjoyed time with his family, especially with his grandchildren, C.J. and Jordan. He enjoyed big family beach trips and professional baseball games. His great grandchildren, Nicholas Henry and Sadie Reid were his world and always made him smile. He really enjoyed Sadie bringing him special lunches on Fridays! He enjoyed special visits with Nicholas. Al was an avid fan of Tar Heel basketball. He had a special couch buddy, “Snowball” that kept him company and napped with him. A memorial service will be held Tuesday April 2, 2024 at 6:30 PM at Fuller Chapel Christian Church by the Rev. Tammy Asycue . The family will receive friends following the service in the Church Fellowship Hall and request that everyone dress in colorful spring clothes. He is survived by one daughter, Tracey H. Garrison (Wesley) of Henderson; two granddaughters, C. J. Oakes (Justin) of Greenville and Jordan Davidson (Seth) of Henderson; two great grandchildren, Nicholas Henry Oakes and Sadie Reid Davidson. In addition to his wife and his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters, Edna H. King, Judy Harp, Frances H. Roberson and Shirley Harp; and five brothers, Sherwood Harp, Marvin Harp, Floyd Ray Harp, James Harp, and Hartwell Harp. The family extends a special “thank you” to Anita Rogers for always taking care of him and to his nephew, Keith, who was always there for him.
