HENDERSON-Alvin Eugene Oakes, age 78, a resident of 328 Oak Street, died Sunday, July 20, 2014, at Maria Parham Medical Center.Born on April 19, 1936 in Granville County, he was the son of the late William Belt Oakes and Beatrice Hall Oakes, and was the widower of Farrel Wheeler Oakes.He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army and was a member of Tabbs Creek Baptist Church.
Graveside services will be held Wednesday at 11:00 am at Sunset Gardens by the Rev. Frank Sossamon.
He is survived by one son, Craig Oakes and wife, Virginia of Henderson; two grandsons, Justin Oakes and wife, C.J. of Greenville and Tyler Oakes of Henderson; two sisters, Betty O. White and Lucy O. Mantas of Henderson; and a special friend, Ann McIntyre of Henderson.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Julian Beverly Oakes and William Hunter Oakes.
The family will receive friends Tuesday night from 7 until 8:30 pm at J. M. White Funeral Home.
