HENDERSON-Amos Clifton Brewer, 82, a resident of 1755 Poplar Creek Road, died Friday, September 21, 2018, at his home.Born in Mecklenburg County, Virginia on May 7, 1936, he was the son of the late Eugene Clifton Brewer and Edna Parrott Brewer, and was the widower of Frances Lewis Brewer.Amos was retired from J. P. Taylor Tobacco Company.He was a member of Poplar Creek Baptist Church, where he sang in the church choir, he was a member of the Social Committee, as well as other church committees.He was a former Sunday School Superintendent and Deacon, having to step down in 2007 because of health issues. Amos was a farmer all of his life, raising cattle, tobacco, and hay.He loved his dogs, going to auctions, enjoying fellowship with family and friends over a good meal, country and gospel music, and driving his John Deere tractor.
Funeral services will be held Sunday at 3 PM at South Henderson Pentecostal Holiness Church by the Rev. Tony Evans, the Rev. Frank Sossamon, and Dr. Steve Kinnard. The body will lie in state from 2 until 2:45 prior to the service at South Henderson Pentecostal Holiness Church.Burial will follow in the Poplar Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends in the Family Life Center at Poplar Creek Baptist Church following the burial.
He is survived by one son, Christopher Brewer (Lisa) of Henderson; one daughter, Chippy Leigh Kinnard (Steve) of Fair Lawn, New Jersey; one stepdaughter, Sreda Riley (John) of Mechanicsville, Virginia; one sister, Alice Jean Harris of Raleigh; six grandchildren, Tyler Brewer, Chelsea Novack, Daniel Kinnard, Shane Riley, Austin Riley, and Taylor Riley; two great grandchildren, Bradley Novack, and Tyler Novack; two caregivers, Annette Hicks, and Cookie Childs; and his four legged companions, Dolly and Spec.
Serving as pall bearers will be Randy Ball, Ryan Hutson, Kyser Stark, John Owens, Jason Hoyle, Joel Harris, and Larry Hart.
