Amy Rose Spain Norwood, age 84, a resident of 164 Norwood Lane, died Thursday, February 10, 2011, at her home.Born at home in Warren County on November 13, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Richard Young Spain and Elsie Watkins Spain, and was the widow of Stanley Carl Norwood, Sr.
Mrs. Norwood served for many years as office manager for the former Warren General Hospital.Later in life, she worked for the Warren County EMS for 13 years.She was a member of Mt. Auburn Christian Church where she played the piano for 30 years; she was also in the church choir and part of the Womens Missionary Society.In earlier years, she spent many hours gardening and putting up summer vegetables for use throughout the year.In more recent years, she enjoyed nothing more than playing with her younger grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Sunday night from 7:00 until 8:30 at J.M. White Funeral home in Henderson, located near Maria Parham Hospital.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 2:00 pm at Mt. Auburn Christian Church by the Rev. Lowell Lee.Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
She is survived by a large and close-knit family that still gathers together at the home place to celebrate major holidays.Her living children include her daughter, Victoria Anne Norwood of the home and two sons, Stephen Young Norwood of Manson and Michael Dean Norwood and wife, Jennifer of Hillsborough.She is also survived by one sister, Nancy Hayden Spain of Hampton, Virginia and one daughter-in-law, Josephine N. Balltzglier and husband, Harold, of Henderson.Mrs. Norwood has eight grandchildren, Cynthia Bowen, Michael Norwood and wife, Breidi, Carla Norwood and husband, Gabriel Cumming, Chris Norwood and wife, Amanda, Amy Williamson and husband, Dennis, Chad Norwood and wife, Kady, Maddie Norwood, and Max Norwood; and nine great-grandchildren: Ashley, Layden, Lydia, Torre, Ben, Beth, Ayden, Juniper and Grayson. She was preceded in death by one son, Stanley Carl Norwood, Jr. and one sister Anne Marie Spain.
Serving as active pall bearers will be Cran Wilson, Eugene Wilson, Johnny Fleming, Dick Hilliard, Thomas G. Abbott, Jr., and Dennis Paschall.Serving as honorary pall bearers will be members of the Warren County EMS.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in Mrs. Norwoods honor may be made to Mt. Auburn Christian Church at 6238 Drewry Virginia Line Road, Manson NC 27553
