Ann Freeman Jaeger

d. May 27, 2012

Ann Freeman Jaeger, age 58, passed away on May 27th, 2012 after enduring ALS for over 2years.She was able to spend the last days of her life with her family, as she had planned.
Born in Durham, North Carolina, Ann was the daughter of the late Homa Jackson and Erma Ruth Freeman. After graduating from Durham High School in 1971, she attended East Carolina University, where she majored in Early Childhood Education. She graduated in 1975 and temporarily moved back to Durham to work at the Duke Law Library before relocating to Henderson, NC to teach 3rd grade at New Hope School.
She met her husband, Chris on a blind date and married shortly thereafter on December 18, 1977; they were married for 34 years and had two daughters, Jennifer and Karen.Chris and Ann spent their time together traveling the world, volunteering within their community and church and loving their family, friends and children dearly.
After retiring from her teaching career, Ann opened Blethen Temporaries, where she offered employment opportunities for the Tri-County community and companies. After her tenure at Blethen, Ann desired to showcase her love of interior design in her professional life and, thus, opened The Fabric Gallery, an interior decorating storefront on Garnett Street in Henderson.Later, Ann opened a franchise of Decorating Den where she served the Durham, Chapel Hill and Tri-County areas as an in home decorator.
Ann was a champion of the Henderson community. Some of her accolades include Vance County Citizen of the Year, President of the Chamber of Commerce, Director of Colorfest (local arts festival), Deacon of First Baptist Church, Board of Directors of the Durham Rape Crisis Center, 11-year member of Oxford Al-Anon and chaperone (aka Resident Mom) to First Baptist Churchs Youth Group in the 90s.
Ann lived to serve others. She taught elementary school, instructed business classes at Vance Granville Community College, volunteered in the church and community and always had a listening ear for her friends and family. Her laugh was contagious and her smile always lit up the room she occupied, even up to her last few weeks with her loved ones.
Despite her long battle with ALS, Ann made the conscious decision to maintain her positive attitude and serve her family and friends by being a confidant and faithful mentor. She became an inspiration to so many as her faith never faltered and her love of others overshadowed her daily struggle with ALS.She wanted people to see that faith, love and a positive attitude could conquer even the most debilitating disease.
