Anne Small Dickerson, age 88, a resident of 209 Burwell Avenue, died May 21, 2014 at her home. Born February 18, 1926 in Rockinham County, North Carolina, she was the daughter of the late James Henry Small and Blanche Hardy Small. She was a graduate of Reidsville High School, Mercy Hospital of Nursing in Charlotte, and was a retired registered nurse at Maria Parham Hospital in Henderson. Anne was an active member of the First Baptist Church where she was a member of the Joy/Currin Sunday School Class, a charter member of the VGCC quilting class, and a member of the Vance Quilters R Us where she donated many childrens quilts to the Ronald McDonald House of Durham. Funeral Services will be held Saturday at 10am at the First Baptist Church of Henderson by the Reverend Dr. Marion D. Lark and the Reverend Dr. Ronald S. Cava. A graveside service will be held at 3pm Saturday at Reidlawn Cemetery in Reidsville. She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, John Hillman Dickerson, her sisters, Helen Barker, and Marian Stadler, and her brothers, Jack and Bill Small. She is survived by her children Beth D. Hoyle and husband, Mike, of Durham, NC, John Dickerson and wife, Nancy, of Raleigh, NC, Bill Dickerson of Nashville, TN, Jeff Dickerson and wife, Joanie, of Kittrell, NC, and Sarah Dickerson of Clayton, NC; one sister, Elisabeth Spencer and husband Tommy of Sugarland, TX; one brother, David Small and wife Sandra of Reidsville; her grandchildren Elisabeth Hoyle, Will and Kerry Hoyle, Meredith H. and Scott Wilkins, Hill and Amanda Dickerson, Kathryn D. and Cam Coley, Patrick and Stephanie Dickerson, Cameron Talley, David Loman, Lin and Ashley Bunting, and Jeffrey Bunting; her great-grandchildren Carter and Caroline Hoyle, Mason and Hudson Wilkins, Ava and Hadley Dickerson, Elizabeth, Mary Kate, Cameron, and Walker Coley, Halle and Patrick Dickerson, and Landon Bunting; her sister-in-laws, Bernice Daniel, Becky Dickerson, Judy Daniel, and Frances Dickerson; and many nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at the home, 209 Burwell Avenue. Serving as active pall-bearers will be Hill Dickerson, Patrick Dickerson, Cameron Talley, Will Hoyle, Lin Bunting, Jeffrey Bunting, and David Loman.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Ronald McDonald House, at 506 Alexander Avenue, Durham, NC, in memory of Anne Small Dickerson.
