Annie Mae Gill Buchanan, 102, formerly of S. Cokesbury Road, died Thursday, January 24, 2019 at Franklin Oaks Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.Born in Vance County on April 21, 1916, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin Claude Gill, Sr. and Annie Bell West Gill, and was the widow of Elmer William Buchanan.
Mrs. Buchanan graduated from Aycock High School in 1934.She worked on her parents farm as a youth and she continued farm work after she married.She was a homemaker and member of Cokesbury United Methodist Church where she was a former member of the Cokesbury Ladies Class and the Cokesbury United Methodist Women.She was known for her cooking, and helping her family members by babysitting.When she wasn’t working, she enjoyed planting flowers in her gardens and flower boxes until her health prevented her.
Funeral services will be held Sunday at 3pm at Cokesbury United Methodist Church by the Rev. Julia Alliger.Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
She is survived by one daughter, Shirley Buchanan Edwards and husband, James of Henderson; her grandsons, who lived with her until adulthood, Michael Limer (Gina) and Barry Limer (Dianne); and eight great grandchildren, Michael Limer, Jr., Dana Allen, Adam Limer, Lee Limer, Christopher Limer, Patrick Limer, Chase Davis, and Anna Davis; sixteen great great grandchildren; a special niece, Marilyn Satterwhite; and many other nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her grandson, Terry Limer; and three brothers, B.C. Gill, Edgar Gill, and Virgil Gill.
The family will receive friends Sunday prior to the service from 2 until 3 pm at Cokesbury United Methodist Church.At other times they will be at the home of her grandson, Michael Limer, 250 Tower Road, Henderson, NC 27537.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Michael Limer, Jr., Lee Limer, Adam Limer, Josh Allen, Steve Satterwhite, Gary Gill, Dale Fleming and Chase Davis.Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Cokesbury Ladies Sunday School Class.
Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the Cokesbury United Methodist Church Ladies Sunday School Class, c/o Ruth Moss, 1705 Allison Cooper Road, Henderson, NC 27537.
