Barbara Binkley Newcomb

HENDERSON- Mrs. Barbara Stone Newcomb, age 78, a resident of Henderson, died Monday, December 22, 2014 at Maria Parham Medical Center.Born on July 11, 1936 in Vance County she was the daughter of the late Walter Henry Stone and Margaret Hines Brinkley Stone.She was a graduate of Durham Business School and a retired librarian, having worked for 29 years at H. Leslie Perry Memorial Library.Mrs. Newcomb was a member of First United Methodist Church.
A graveside funeral service will be held Saturday, December 27, 2014 at 11:00 AM at Union Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery by Rev. Terry Huffines.
She is survived by her grandson, William Andrew Newcomb, III; her granddaughter, Caroline Elizabeth Newcomb; and her daughter-in-law, Kathy A. Newcomb all of Henderson; as well as several nephews.
Mrs. Newcomb was preceded in death by her son, Dr. William Andrew Newcomb, Jr. and her brother, Walter Henry Stone, Jr.
The family will receive friends following the service on Saturday at Union Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery.At other times they will be at the home of Kathy Newcomb, 2930 Dogwood Dr. Henderson.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the Perry Memorial Library, Childrens Book Fund, 205 Breckenridge St., Henderson, NC 27536 or the First United Methodist Church Youth Fund, 114 Church Street, Henderson, NC 27536.
