Macon-Beatrice Van Note Wheeler Peterson, age 95 died at her home on Lake Gaston, Macon, NC. on Thursday August 25, 2011.
She was born in Kirby, VT on March 19, 1916 to the late Arthur Lee Wheeler Sr. and Florence Van Note Wheeler.She was the widow of Christopher Mark Peterson, a retired history teacher at Point Pleasant Beach, NJ.
Beatrice was a descendent of John Chamberlin the Revolutionary War patriot who was the oldest person in Brick Township when he died at age 105. She was also a descendent of W.G. Van Kouwenhoven a Dutch settler who arrived in New Amsterdam in 1630.
Her maternal grandfather, Z.P. Van Note, was a pioneer resident of Point Pleasant Beach , N.J.Mr. Van Note and his wife were charter members of the First Presbyterian Church in Point Pleasant Beach, NJ.
Her father was killed in an auto accident at age 34 leaving her mother a widow with five children under the age of eight. Mrs. Wheeler returned to Point Pleasant Beach, N.J. and was the Kindergarten teacher for 33 years there.
Beatrice graduated from Point Pleasant Beach High School, Point Pleasant Beach, N.J. in 1933, Maryville College in 1937 and was a teacher at Point Pleasant Boro Elementary School in New Jersey.
She wasa member of Eastern Star Thea #192, the Gov. William Livingston Chapter, NSDAR, and a Deacon in the Presbyterian Church. Upon moving to North Carolina she became a member of First Presbyterian in Henderson, N.C.
Graveside services and interment will be held Thursday, September 1, 2011 at 11:00 AM at Glendola Cemetery in Wall, NJ by Elder R. Bruce Rogers.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Janet Lachenauer, Margaret Case, and a brother, A. Lee Wheeler Jr.She is survived by her daughter Dianne Wheeler Rogers and son-in-law R. Bruce Rogers of Lake Gaston, N.C.She is also survived by her brother, Emery Wayne Wheeler of Point Pleasant Beach, N.J; a grandson, David Bruce Rogers and wife Heather of Akron, Ohio; a granddaughter, Beatrice Wheeler Perry and husband Adam Daniel Perry of Wake Forest, N.C.; and her great-grandchildren, David Christian Perry, Ethan Rogers Perry, Preston Blake Perry, Lauren Elizabeth Perry, Fiona Grace Rogersand Charles Roy Rogers.
Arrangements are by J.M. White Funeral Home in Henderson, NC.
