HENDERSON- Mrs. Betsy Bunn Bowen, 85, of Fairway Drive, died Saturday, July 3, 2021 at Hock Family Pavilion.Born in Franklin County on September 30, 1935 she was the daughter of the late Arthur Lee Bunn and Denaize Meade Bunn. She worked for Dr. Robert G. Currin for 22 years and was the church secretary for seven years at First United Methodist Church of Henderson. She was active in the church and was a member of the United Methodist Women. She was also heavily involved with the youth of the church, assisting with the Children’s Choir, the FUMC Youth Group, and arranged weekly acolytes for the church services. When she wasn’t in the yard tending to her flowers, Betsy was an avid bridge player and sold Mary
Kay cosmetics for over twenty years.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 7, 2021 at 11:00 AM at First United Methodist Church Henderson by Rev. George Loveland. Burial will follow at Sunset Gardens.
She is survived by her husband, Teddy Franklin "Ted" Bowen of the home; her son, Gary Lee Bowen of Henderson; her daughter, Kathryn Bowen Overby and husband, Dean of Henderson; two granddaughters, Emily Paige Overby and fiance, Joe Shields and Anna Blake Overby; and a sister, Denaize B. Chaney.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Gerald S. Bunn, George T. "Jolly" Bunn and Harold M. Bunn; and a sister, Paige B. Hicks.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until 10:45 AM prior to the service at First United Methodist Church.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, 114 Church Street, Henderson, NC27536.
Serving as pallbearers will be Stewart Bunn, Paul Chaney, Bob Hicks, Ray Rainey, Bryce Mendenhall, Bill Edwards and Donnie Hogge.
