HENDERSON- Betty Pack Clayton, 81, of Oakridge Ave., died Thursday, October 05, 2023 at her home. Born December 29, 1941 in Granville County, she was the daughter of the late Eloise Carey Knight and James L. Knight and was the widow of Lawrence Howard “Cotton” Clayton. She was a 1960 graduate of Henderson High School where she was chief cheerleader. She was employed at George W. Kane, Inc. and retired from H.G. Reynolds Co., Inc., in 2010. Betty was a doting grandmother and avid bridge player. She especially enjoyed the friendships made with her Wednesday night bridge club ladies. She was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church where a memorial service will be held Sunday, October 8, 2023 at 3:00 P.M. by Rev. George Loveland. Inurnment will follow in Sunset Gardens She is survived by her daughter, Deborah C. “Debbie” Capps of Raleigh; two sons, Lawrence H. “Larry” Clayton, Jr. of Los Angeles, CA and Randall C. “Randy” Clayton and wife, Christine “Christy” of Apex; three grandsons, Davis O’Neil Clayton, Gray Michael Clayton and Wade Edward Clayton; a sister, Teresa K. Parham, and husband, David; and two brothers, James L. Knight, Jr. and wife, Sheila and William H. Knight and wife, Laurie. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Michael J. Clayton. The family will receive friends Sunday prior to the service from 2:00 P.M. until 3:00 P.M. in the fellowship hall of First United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, 114 Church Street, Henderson, NC 27536, or a charity of one’s choice. The family would like to extend special thanks to Betty’s dedicated caregivers, especially her longtime caregivers, Jackie Williams and Doris Crews.
