Betty Ranes Elliott, age 69, a resident of 1111 Satterwhite Point Road, died Sunday, April 14, 2013, at Rex Hospital after a long battle with cancer. Born on February 5, 1944 in Vance County, she was the daughter of the late Herbert Ranes and Frances Roberson Ranes.She was a tobacco farmer and member of Flat Rock United Methodist Church.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11:00 AM at Flat Rock United Methodist Church by the Rev. Cathy Hoyle and the Rev. Marshall Neathery.Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
She is survived by her husband of fifty-two years, Lawrence Elliott, of the home; a brother, Wayne Ranes and his companion Janet Deel of Henderson; and two sisters, Janet Ross and husband, Marvin Ross III,and Kathy Newcomb all of Henderson. Two sister-in-laws, Nancy Lamy, Jackie Brown and husband Roger of Greensboro.She is also survived by her nieces Stephanie Grissom, Melonie Gupton, Lynn Nance, Michelle Pierce, Nicole Baring, Janette Johnson, Jenny Evans; nephews Tony Ranes, Scott Ranes, Kevin Newcomb, and Patrick Newcomb. She is also survived by 26 great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her mother in law Annie Elliott, sister in law Sarah Ranes, brother in law Morris Elliott and a nephew Paul Elliott. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 7:00pm til 8:30pm at J.M. White Funeral Home.
Serving as pall bearers will be Patrick Bailey, Butch Spain, Dale Reese, Danny Norwood, Tony Norwood, Jackie Ellis, Alex Clark and Santiago Carrillo.
