Betty Turner Vernon, age 81, a native and lifelong resident of Henderson died Friday, October 11, 2013 after a short battle of declining health.Born on November 28, 1931 in Vance County, she was the daughter of the late Samuel Ernest Turner and Enda Hayes Turner. Betty was a loving, loyal and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a wonderful role model and friend to her husband, daughter, and grandchildren.She was a gifted homemaker.Home was always a soft place to fall.Betty was a shareholder of Rose Oil Company and a co-owner of the former Silo restaurant.She was a 60 plus years member of St. Johns Episcopal Church where she served as a choir member for many years.She was the widow of the late John Ellis Vernon to whom she was married for 59 years.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 2 pm in the J. M. White Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Donald A. Lowery.Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery.
She is survived by one daughter, Angela Vernon Christopher and husband, Lee H. Christopher; II; her grandchildren, L. H. Chris Christopher, III, John Vernon Christopher, and Alexis Nicole Christopher all of Raleigh; two sisters, Evelyn Rose Turner Reese of PA. and her children and grandchildren, and, Ferebee T. Owens of Henderson and her children; grandchildren; and great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Sunday night from 7 until 8:30 pm at J. M. White Funeral Home.At other times they will be the home at 2170 Woodland Road.
