GREENVILLE NC- Blanche Cheatham Critcher, died on July 10, 2021. She was born in Oxford, North Carolina the daughter of late Charles Hamlin Cheatham and Effie Dean Cheatham.
Ms. Critcher retired from the Department of Psychology at the University of North Carolina in 1988; joined the Senate staff of the General Assembly in 1989, and in 1994 was given a five-year appointment by Governor James B. Hunt to serve as his Ombudsman for those employed in state government. She was awarded the prestigious Order of the Long Leaf Pine by Governor James B. Hunt for distinguished service. She also served as State Membership Chairman, on the Scholarship Board of Directors, and was elected as State Treasurer to the State Employee Association of North Carolina. In 1999 she was the Page Supervisor in the House of Representatives, and for the 2000 Legislative Session she was appointed as a research assistant and later as an administrative assistant in the State Senate.
The funeral service will be held in Henderson NC at JM White Funeral Home on 60 Zeb
Robinson Rd, on Friday, July 16, 2021 at 2:00 PM by Rev. Dr. Vincent Kopp.
Ms. Critcher is survived by James E. Critcher, Sr.; son James E. Critcher, Jr.; daughter Linda Critcher Kindell and husband Tad Kindell; Grandchildren Elizabeth Baker Pegg and husband John Steven Pegg, James E. Critcher III, Dean Allen Critcher, Kameron Leigh Critcher; great grandchildren Jack Henry Pegg and Lily Harper Pegg; three sisters Vera Caulder of Henderson, NC, Hettie Petty Gerhardt of Swansboro, NC, Margaret Brame of Yorktown, VA and eight nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Friday before the service from 12:30 PM till 1:50 PM at J.M. White Funeral Home.
