HENDERSON- Bobby Eugene “Mr. Ugly” Wilkerson, 89, of White Oak Drive, died Tuesday, July 5, 2022 at Wake Medical Center. Born September 24, 1932 in Vance County, he was the son of the late Hartwell S. Wilkerson and Rena George Wilkerson and was the widower of Christine Fuller Wilkerson. He was a member of North Henderson Baptist Church. Bobby was a retired Vance County magistrate. Prior to his magistrate’s position he worked with the Henderson Fire Department, Henderson Police Department, and the Water Maintenance Department as well as being the owner and operator of Bobby Wilkerson’s Fire Extinguisher Service. As the founder and president of “The Ugly League,” Mr. Ugly enjoyed giving Ugly League Membership Cards to family, friends and acquaintances nationwide. To be eligible for membership one must have been of good character and high moral standards. The members of this friendly membership club considered it a privilege to belong. His position even brought him the notoriety of appearing in an episode of NBC’s “Real People” and locally WRAL’s “Tarheel Traveler.” A graveside memorial service will be held Friday, July 15, 2022, at 11:00 AM at Sunset Gardens by Dr. Donald A. Perkinson. Bobby is survived by several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and his special canine buddy, “Tyson.” In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by his sister, Ferebee W. Preddy and his two brothers, Ranger Wilkerson and Jackie R. Wilkerson. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Ruin Creek Animal Protection Society, 165 US Hwy 158 Bypass, Henderson, NC 27537.
