Brenda Harrell Johnson

YOUNGSVILLE- Brenda Lee Harrell Johnson, affectionately known as “Nanny,” 82, of Spindale Court, died Sunday, June 28, 2026 at the home of her son. Born March 11, 1944 in Johnston County, she was the daughter of the late Bertha Creech Harrell and Clarence Richard Harrell and was the widow of Donald Gene Johnson, Sr. Mrs. Johnson was the operator of Brenda’s At Home Daycare. She was a member of Blessed Hope Baptist Church where she taught the Children’s Sunday School Class and sang in the choir. She was also a Salvation Army volunteer.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 2, 2026 at 1:00 P.M. at Blessed Hope Baptist Church by Rev. Jonathan Owens. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery.

She is survived by two sons, Donald Gene Johnson, Jr. and wife, Pam of Youngsville and Douglas Gordon Johnson and wife, Tracee of Henderson; two grandchildren, Angie Wright and husband, D.J. and Donald Gene Johnson, III; two step-grandchildren, Kaydee Lassiter and Daylon Lassiter; and a great-grandson, Zackery Short.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Wayne Harrell, Clarence Harrell, Jr. and Dennis Harrell.

Serving as pallbearers will be Tim Crane, Sam Sanderson, Josh Parrish, Justin Newton, William McCann, Daylon Lassiter and Ricky Newton.

The family will receive friends Thursday prior to the service beginning at 11:30 A.M. in the fellowship hall of Blessed Hope Baptist Church.

The family wishes to extend a special thanks to Anita Rogers and her staff for the dedicated care she gave to Brenda.
