C. Elmo Abbott

d. February 27, 2011

Clinton Elmo Abbott, 76, of Henderson went to his heavenly home Sunday, February 27, 2011, with family by his side. He was born May 2, 1934 in Vance County to the late Lennie and Manolia Stevenson Abbott. He grew up with his siblings on a tobacco farm, developed strong work ethics and a dream for a happy life. When he met the love of his life, Betty Jean Faulkner, he knew she was the beginning of his journey. They were married October 6, 1952, sharing 58 years together.
Elmo served two years in the US Army in Germany during the Korean Conflict. He loved sharing his adventures and describing Hitler’s castles, the German culture and the beautiful country. He surprised his new bride waiting in N.C. with many packages of German gifts.
As members of the Carolina Kickers Square Dance Club and the Epsom Country Club, Elmo and Betty shared their love of dancing and music. Their zest for traveling led them to all but two states on the U.S. mainland. Exploring Alaska was Elmo’s prize trip. To see God’s vast frontier was exalting for him. Their WBCCI, Airstream Caravan Club, also provided endless trips with new friends. Elmo practiced his storytelling and jokes to keep everyone laughing.
Elmo was an active member of New Sandy Creek Baptist Church and a member of the Ed Blue Sunday School Class. He developed a passion of reading and studying his Bible and shared scripture and God’s love with family, friends, and recently with doctors and medical staff. He never missed an opportunity to witness.
