HENDERSONCarl Nathaniel Edwards, age 92, of Henderson died, Tuesday, February 04, 2014 at his home.Born in Franklin County November 16, 1921 he was the son of the late Henry Rueben Edwards and Irene Vaughan Edwards.He was the owner and operator of the former Edwards Grocery and Carls Market.A Veteran of the United States Navy he served during WW II at the Battle of Okinawa aboard the USS Tolman DM28. Mr. Edwards was a member of First Baptist Church Henderson, the Wayne Woodlief Sunday School Class and the American Legion.
A memorial service will be held Friday at 2pm in the chapel of J.M. White Funeral Home conducted by Dr. Ron Cava and Dr. Marion D. Lark.
He is survived by his wife Anne Faulkner Edwards of the home; a daughter, Patricia EdwardsGodwin of Cary; a son, Carl Nathaniel Edwards, Jr. of Wilmington; four grandchildren, Jane Godwin, Carl Nathaniel Tripp Edwards, III, Sara Edwards, and Eli Edwards; and a sister Grace Mitchell of Suffolk.
He was preceded in death by five brothers and three sisters.
The family will receive friends following the service on Friday at J.M. White Funeral Home and at other times they will be at the home.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the New Sandy Creek Baptist Church Building Fund, 1699 Weldons Mill Road, Henderson, NC 27537.
