Carl "Red" Neal, age 82, a resident of 1816 S. Clearview Drive, died Saturday, June 21, 2014 at Magnolia Gardens of Warrenton. Born on August 7, 1931 in Vance County, he was the son of the late Walter Carl Neal and Ora Hansford Neal.
Red was a retired Mason Foreman at Johnson Block and Concrete Co. He served in the US
Merchant Marines and the North Carolina National Guard. Red was a race car driver in the early era of NASCAR. He also worked at the old skating rink where he was a professional skater, which led to the meeting of his wife. He went on to play professionalroller hockey.
He was the oldest living member of Harriett Baptist Church where he was a former Deacon,
Sunday School Teacher, choir member, youth leader, and had served on many various committees at the church.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 am at Harriett Baptist Church by the Rev. Will
Breedlove and the Rev. Jake Roberson. Burial will follow in Sunset Gardens.
He is survived by one daughter, Elaine Neal Medlin and husband, Charles of Henderson; one son, Gregory Carl Neal and wife, Tracy of Oxford; two grandsons, Brian Kristopher Neal and wife, Ruby of Raleigh, and Charles Ryan Medlin of Henderson; one granddaughter, Christian Medlin Wirtz and husband, Brandon of Henderson; and two great grandchildren, Taylin Medlin and Gabriel Wirtz. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 55 years, Peggy Duke Neal.
The family will receive friends Tuesday night from 7 until 8:30 pm at J. M. White Funeral Home. At other times they will be at his home at 1816 S. Clearview Drive.
Pallbearers will be: Chris Ayscue, Mike Riggan, Lawrence Hilliard, Curtis Johnson, Wayne
Schuster, and Garrett Barneycastel.
Arrangements are by J. M. White Funeral Home.
