Carl Benton Stone, 77, a resident of 950 Cedar Cove Road, in the Middleburg Community, died Friday, December 2, 2016, at his home.Born on February 7, 1939 in Vance County, he was the son of the late Luther C. Buck Stone and Clara Boyd Stone.Carl was a Veteran of the United States Army and was a retired customer service representative with the former Laurens Glass Plant. He enjoyed playing Gin at Kittrell Grocery, telling his stories of Panama, the Outer Banks, and living on Kerr Lake.He was very proud of his special name CaCa that was affectionaly given him by his grand kids, Ryleigh and Grayson.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday at 2 pm at North Henderson Baptist Church by the Rev. John Marks Sanders.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce Pendergrass Cheaves Stone of the home; one son, Joel Stone of Kittrell; five step-daughters, Angie Whitley (Tony) of College Grove, TN, Leigh Ann Griffis (Ryan) of Holly Springs, Cynthia Howell Winslow (David) of Winston-Salem, Jeanna Howell Ojeda (Fernando) of Palm Harbor, Florida, Janice Howell ODell of Kernersville; one step-son, Johnny Scoot Cheaves (Beverly) of Henderson; 15 grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren.He was preceded in death by one daughter, Sharon Stone; one step daughter, Elaine Hodges; and one sister, Ann Stone Cuddihy.
The family will receive friends following the service in the fellowship hall at North Henderson Baptist Church.At other times they will be at the home in the Middleburg Community.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to North Henderson Baptist Church, 1211 N. Garnett Street, Henderson, NC27536.
The family would like to give a special thanks to the staff at Community Home Care and Hospice, and to Kara and Christine for their loving and compassionate care given to Carl.
