HENDERSON-Carolyn Bell Sumners, age 78, a resident of Chestnut Street, died Tuesday, August 26, 2014 at Community Memorial Hospital in South Hill, Virginia.
Born in Vance County on August 13, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Carroll Bell, Sr. and Myrtle Grissom Bell.She was a retired Director of the Vance County Senior Center.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 am at the Church of The Holy Innocents by the Rev. Donald Lowery.Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery.
She is survived by two daughters, Nancy Bell Sumners of Anderson, SC and Elisabeth P. Upton of Boydton, Va; one sister, Nancy Bell Rogers of Henderson; one brother, Joseph Carroll Bell Jr. and wife, Nancy of Henderson; two grandchildren, Caitlin Upton and Caleb Upton; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Thursday night from 7 until 8:30 pm at J. M. White Funeral Home.
