Charles Morgan Allen

Charles Morgan Allen, Sr., 63, a resident of David Avenue, died Saturday, December 31, 2022 in Wilmington NC. Born on October 6, 1959 in Vance County, he was the son of Maxine Roberson Allen of Southport and the late John Thomas Allen, Sr. Graduating from Vance Senior High School in 1978, he went on to attend North Carolina State University where he received a degree in Applied Science/Turf Grass Management. After graduating he was the owner and operator of the former GreenMaster Landscaping & Irrigation Company where his talents were instrumental in the architecture and construction of golf courses, residential homes and corporations across the state. He also held the titles of Greens Superintendent and Golf Professional of several local golf courses. A well-rounded athlete, Charles excelled in baseball, football and golf. He had many hobbies, waterskiing, snow skiing, and duck hunting to name a few. His passion was coaching kids in baseball. Charles never met a stranger. He loved his family, friends, and helping others. He will be remembered for his generous heart, big smile and love of laughter. In addition to his mother Charles is survived by his daughter, Morgan Allen Wilkerson (Justin) of Houston, TX; his son, Charles Morgan Allen, Jr. of Zebulon; his sister, Ellen Allen Herring (Davey) of Southport; and two brothers, John T. Allen, Jr. (Gail) of Henderson and Rodney Allen (Vicki) of Wilmington. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a sister, Minda Allen Brooks. A memorial service will be Wednesday, January 11, 2023, at 2:00 PM at the First United Methodist Church by Rev. George Loveland. The family will receive friends following the service in the church Fellowship Hall. In lieu of flowers, the family would request that you make a contribution to the charity of your choice.
