HENDERSON- Mr. Charles Frederick Coghill, Jr., 83, a resident of 203 Lakeview Dr, died Wednesday, September 21, 2016 at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill.Born June 5, 1933 in Richmond, VA he was the son of the late Charles Frederick Coghill and Nannie B. Twisdale Coghill.He was a member of First Baptist Church where a memorial service will be held Sunday, at 2:00 PM by Dr. Ron S. Cava and Dr. Marion D. Lark.
Fred was a Veteran of the US Army serving as a Paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne during the beginning stages of the Parachute Division.After his service with the Army he worked as a tobacconist for Export Leaf Tobacco Company and most recently retired from the USDA after working in the ASCS office where he was a friend to the farmer.Freds hobbies included baseball, basketball and working in his yard.He was a loving husband, daddy and beloved granddaddy.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Mildred Williamson Coghill of the home; his son, Charles Frederick "Charley" Coghill, III and wife, Debbie of Fayetteville; three grandchildren, Quincy Lace Coghill, Kathryn Jordan Coghill and Zackery Charles-Zane Coghill; and many nieces and nephews of which he thought fondly.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Virginia C. Richardson and Doris C. Matthews.
The family will receive friends following the service in the fellowship hall of First Baptist Church Henderson.At other times they will be at the home, 203 Lakeview Drive.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Community Partners of Hope, Mens Shelter, PO Box 1791, Henderson, NC 27536.
