- Mr. Charles Wesley Crowder, died December 11, 2013 at the VA Medical Center in Durham.Born in South Hill, VA on January 17, 1924 he was the son of the late James A. Crowder and Sarah J. Roberts Crowder. A Veteran of the United States Army, he served in WWII at the Battle of the Bulge and was a Purple Heart recipient.Mr. Crowder was a member of Flat Rock United Methodist Church and American Legion Post 79 in South Hill, VA.He retired from the former A & P Grocery Store where he worked as a meat cutter.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 11:00 AM at Flat Rock United Methodist Church by Rev. Cathy Hoyle.A graveside service with military honors will follow in Orange United Methodist Church Cemetery in Chapel Hill at 2:00 PM.
Mr. Crowder is survived by his wife, Jean Clark Crowder of the home; a daughter, Trudy Tudor and husband Brantley of Scotland Neck; a son, Kenneth Charles Crowder and wife Melinda of Pittsboro; a grandson, Charles Tudor and wife Tracey of Raleigh; two great grandsons, Alexander and Eric; and a brother, Samuel G. Crowder of Sulfolk, VA.
He was preceded in death by three sisters and four brothers.
The family will receive friends prior to the service on Monday at 10:00 AM till 10:45 AM at Flat Rock United Methodist Church.
