HENDERSON-Charles Fitts, age 92, a resident of 1079 Eastern Blvd., died Friday, February 19, 2016, at Franklin Oaks Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Louisburg.
Born in Vance County on July 2, 1923, he was the son of the late William Edwards Fitts and Irene Matthews Fitts and was the widower of Helen Hatfield Fitts.
Charles was a Veteran of the United States Army serving during World War II in Burma and was the recipient of the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Medal with 2 Bronze Service Stars, and was retired from Ford Motor Company.
He was a member of Eastside Baptist Church where funeral services will be held Sunday at 3:00 PM by the Rev. Aubrey Florence and the Rev. Tim Roberson.Burial will follow in the New Sandy Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
He is survived by a stepson, Jimmy Worley and wife Linda of Pembroke, VA; one sister, Josephine F. Brame of Henderson; one half-sister, Betty Jane Kaska of Orange, California; one half-brother, William Billy Fitts of Nevada City, California; two nephews, Jerry Hammond and wife Kelly of Saltville, VA and Larry Brame and wife Elaine of Henderson; and a niece, Carie Campbell and husband Jeff of Saltville, VA.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Elizabeth Eubanks.
The family will receive friends Saturday night from 7 until 8:30 PM at J. M. White Funeral Home.At other times they will be at his home on Eastern Blvd.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Billy Overton, Donnie Dickerson, Thomas Riley, Calvin Adcock, Rick Etheridge, Jeremy Florence, and Frank Tippett. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be members of the church.
