Rev. Charlie Junior Chappell, age 95, a resident of 85 Freedom Lane and a former resident of Lehman Street, died Sunday, February 07, 2016, at Maria Parham Medical Center after a period of declining health.Born in Franklin County on December 17, 1920, he was the son of the late Charlie George Chappell and Minerva Bell Ayscue Chappell.
Rev. Chapel was a Veteran of the United States Navy serving during World War II and the Korean War.He was a retired Holiness minister and a former General Overseer OfWorldwide Full Gospel Ministries of North Carolina.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 PMin the J. M. White Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Milton Abbott, the Rev. Gary Bateman, and the Rev. Charles Powell.Burial with Military Honors will follow in Sunset Gardens.
He is survived by his son, Phillip Chappell of Henderson; two step-daughter, Alma Currin Bowen of Henderson, and Mattie Belle Mosley of Castalia; one step-son, Joe Currin of Henderson; and one sister Mary Elizabeth C. Powell of Wake Forest.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wives, Mary Adcock Chappell and Maybelle Harris Chappell; one son, Robert Chappell; three brothers, Mack Chappell, John Julius Chappell and Jessie Williard Chappell; one sister, Sally C. Finn; a step-son, Mack Currin; and a step-daughter, Betty Jean Guillen.
The family will receive friends Tuesday night from 7 until 8:30 pm at J. M. White Funeral Home.At other times they will be at the home of Phillip and Evelyn Chappell at 85 Freedom Lane.
Serving as active pall bearers will be Billy Lawson, Billy Lawson, Jr., James Boone, David Boone, Jr., Cecilio Lawson, and Mateo Lawson
