Charlie "Chuck" Thomas Norwood, Jr.

TOWNSVILLE- Charlie Thomas “Chuck” Norwood, Jr., 85, of Townsville Landing Road, died Saturday, March 18, 2023 at the Durham V.A. Hospital surrounded by family. Born June 2, 1937 in Vance County, he was the son of the late Wilma Watson Norwood and Charlie Thomas Norwood, Sr. Chuck was a Veteran of the United States Navy where he served as a Communications Specialist on the USS Chilton. He retired from Burlington Industries where he worked as a supervisor. He was a member of Nut Bush Presbyterian Church where he served as a deacon and a treasurer of the cemetery committee. He was a founding member of the Townsville Fire Department where he served over 25 years. He was a member of the Townsville Lion’s Club and received Lion of the Year in 1977. Chuck was an avid golfer, fisherman, and hunter. He enjoyed spending time with family including his children, grandchildren, and great grandchild. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 21, 2023 at 2:00 PM at Nut Bush Presbyterian Church by Rev. Jimmy Reavis. Burial with military honors will follow in the church cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Mary Williamson Norwood of the home; his daughter, Kim Moody, and husband, Gerald of Townsville; his son, Mitch Norwood of Atlantic Beach; two grandchildren, Kaitlyn M. Milstein and husband, Justin and Seth Moody; a great grandson, Bryce Milstein; three sisters, Joyce Moss and husband, Dan, Donna Canada, and Sylvia Anderson; two brothers, Dave Norwood and wife, Betty Rae and Nathan Fleming; and a brother-in-law, Ron Hancock and wife, Alene. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Hancock. The family will receive friends following the service on Tuesday at Nut Bush Presbyterian Church and at other times at the home, 186 Townsville Landing Road, Henderson, NC 27537. Serving as pallbearers will be Gerald Moody, Seth Moody, Justin Milstein, Bobby Adams, Brad Adams, Walter Beal, Brian Hobgood and Trey Harrell.
