Chester Carl Ellington, Jr., age 72, a resident of 1415 St. Andrews Church Road, died Tuesday, November 21, 2017 at Duke University Hospital.Born on January 12, 1945 in Granville County, he was the son of the late Chester Carl Ellington, Sr. and Ruth Grace Allgood Ellington.Carl was a retired Lieutenant with the Vance County Sheriffs Department and attended Tabernacle United Methodist Church.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2 pm at South Henderson Pentecostal Holiness Church by the Rev. David Pate and the Rev. Frank Sossamon.Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery in Oxford.
He was the husband of Irma VanDyke Ellington, who preceded him in death on Sunday, and is survived by one son, Stephen Ellington (Rachel) of Henderson; one step-son, Allen Hester (Elizabeth) of Boerne, Texas; one step-daughter, Angela Carlies Parker (Jeffrey) of Bunn; one step daughter-in-law, Lori Hester of Oxford; six grandchildren, Christy Ellington, Kimberly Spence, Jamir Ellington, Daniel Ellington, Stephen Ellington, Jr., and Joanna Ellington; one great granddaughter, Elizabeth Ann Whitley; four step-sons; and two step great grandsons.
The family will receive friends on Saturday from 12:00 until 2 pm at South Henderson Pentecostal Holiness Church. At other times they will be at the home at 1415 St. Andrews Church Road and at the home of Shirley Jones, 1061 Hwy. 158 By-Pass.
Serving as active pallbearers will be the Vance County Sheriffs Department Honor Guard.Serving as honorary pall bearers will be all law enforcement.
