HENDERSON-Chester Jordan Yancey, 89, a former resident of the Bearpond Community, died Sunday, October 11, 2015 at Franklin Oaks Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Louisburg.Born April 6, 1926, in Mecklenburg County, Virginia, he was the son of the late Jordan Yancey and Lillian Jones Yancey, and was the widower of Clara Twisdale Yancey. He was retired from the NC Department of Corrections where he worked as a correction officer and was a master gardener. Chester was a Veteran of the United States Army serving in World War II and Union Chapel Baptist Church in Clarksville, VA.
A graveside service with military honors will be held Wednesday at 11:00 AM at Sunset Gardens by Rev. Frank Sossamon.
He is survived by one daughter, Barbara Y. Ayscue of Henderson; four sons, Kenneth Yancey and wife, Joette Tart Yancey of Henderson, Dennis Yancey and wife, Fern of Candor, Earl Yancey and wife, Wendy of Scott Depot, West Virginia, and Chester Lee Yancey and wife, Deborah of Farmville, Virginia; a sister, Marlene Harris and husband, William of Clarksville, VA; two sisters-in-law, Anne Yancey of Clarksville, VA and Peggy Yancey of Chesterfield, VA; eleven grandchildren; nine great grandchildren and a great-great grandchild.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Kimberly Dawn Yancey; a son-in-law, Perry Ayscue; and two brothers, Emeron Yancey and Lester Yancey.
The family will receive friends following the service at Sunset Gardens. At other times they will be at the home of Kenneth and Joette Tart Yancey at 176 Eileen Court, off 158 By-Pass.
