Clifton Leon Steed Jr., age 81, of Henderson passed away on
Saturday, June 29, 2019. Born in Vance County on January 13, 1938, he was the
son of the late Mary Kearson Steed and Clifton Leon Steed. Leon was a 1958
graduate of Henderson High School. He looked forward to class reunions and
reacquainting with his classmates. He attended Louisburg College and was a
graduate of Durham Barber School. He was a member of the North Carolina
National Guard for eight years. Leon worked as a full-time barber for many years
until he started working for Henderson Fruit and Produce in 1970 where he
continued to work for 49 years. He continued to work at night at Eddie’s Barber
Shop until he became ill. He enjoyed talking with his customers when they would
come in for haircuts at night. Leon was a lifelong weight lifter and body builder.
He enjoyed walking, exercising and riding his motorcycle. Leon was a member of the First United Methodist Church.
Funeral Services will be held Thursday July 4, 2019 at 2:00 pm at the J. M. White Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Bobby Fletcher and Bishop Ray Kinnin.
Leon is survived by his wife of 56 years, Patricia "Pat" Grissom Steed; three
children, Catherine DeVries (Dave) of Montgomery, Alabama, Clifton Leon Steed III (Deana) of Georgetown, Texas; and Carolyn Hildebrand of Mooresville; 10 grandchildren, David, Matthew, Nicholas and Christina DeVries; Curtis and Kevin Hildebrand; and Houston, Reagan. Mary and Allie Steed; one sister Susan Adcock (Wayne) of Henderson; one brother, Robert Steed (Alona) of Louisburg; one niece Raven Steed; one nephew, John Adcock (Mercedes); and one great nephew, Hugo Adcock.
He was preceded in death by his nephew, David Adcock.
The family will receive friends Thursday prior to the service from 1:00 until 2:00pm at J. M. White Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the home of Susan and Wayne Adcock, 40 West
Hills Drive, Henderson, N.C.
