HENDERSON-David Wilson "DW" Edwards, age 91, a resident of 290 Bear Pond Road, died Saturday, May 09, 2015, at his home.DW was born in Franklin County on February 2, 1924 to the late William Marvin Edwards and Elizabeth Ayscue Edwards.DW and his wife Jane moved to Vance County where he worked for The North Carolina Department Of Transportation for 50 years until his retirement.
He was a member of Perrys Chapel Baptist Church in Franklinton and was a dedicated member of the Bear Pond Volunteer Fire Department.He was an avid hunter and fisherman and after his retirement he loved working in this vegetable garden.
A graveside service will be held Monday at 2 pm at Plank Chapel United Methodist Church by Dr. Carolyn Roy.
He is survived by his daughter, Joyce Edwards of the home; two sons, Marvin "Sonny" Edwards and Richard "Rick" Edwards and wife, Pat both of Henderson; one grandson, Timothy "Tim" Edwards and fianc, Shannon Hakes of Franklinton; two granddaughters, Michelle Grissom and husband, Ron and Kristen Edwards all of Henderson; and one brother, WilliamHugh "Jack" Edwards and wife, Emily of Henderson.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in wife by his wife, Jane K. Edwards.
The family will receive friends following the service on Monday at Plank Chapel United Methodist Church.At other times they will receive friends at the home at 290 Bear Pond Road.
Serving as honorary pall bearers will be Mike Hayes, Tom Wilson, Rick Wilson, Freddie Oettinger, Henry Parks, Randy Hayes, Carlton Tad Edwards, W. H. Edwards, and Mike Edwards.
