HENDERSON- David Gregory Peoples, Senior, 72, passed away unexpectedly on May 27, 2025 at his home in Henderson. He is survived by his son David Gregory Peoples, Junior, siblings, Diane P. Finch and husband, Jeff, Randy Peoples and wife, Cheri and Joan P. Dorsey; six nieces and two nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brother, Henry “Sonny” Peoples, Jr. and brother-in-law, Donnie Dorsey. David was born January 25, 1953 in Fort Jackson, South Carolina to Henry S. Peoples and Marie Weaver Peoples. He lived in many different places during his childhood such as Germany, Alaska, Virginia and Nort h Carolina. David graduated from Henderson High School in 1971 and went on to complete his Bachelors and Masters degrees at University of North Carolina Chapel Hill. Go Heels. He taught and coached soccer at Vance High School for many years before moving to SAS, where he continued his career until retirement. David was a loving and devoted father, brother and person. His kindness and selfless spirit will forever be cherished and celebrated by those who loved him. A life-long sports enthusiast and dedicated Tar Heel, he never missed the opportunity to discuss the most recent game with friends. In addition to sports, he had an appreciation for the arts, especially film and literature. He was one of the original Henderson Rec Players and lent his creativity to set design and production for many years. He often quoted his favorite excerpts in discussion and valued giving artistic and poetic meaning to everyday life. David you will be deeply missed by your family, friends and all that knew you. A memorial service will be held Thursday, June 5, 2025 at 4:00 P.M. in the chapel of J.M. White Funeral Home led by Minister David Cole. The family will receive friends prior to the service on Thursday beginning at 2:30 P.M. at the funeral home on Thursday.
