David Ernest Pitman, Sr.

HENDERSON- David Ernest Pitman, Sr., 75, of Vicksboro Road, died Tuesday, May 30, 2023 at his home. Born December 21, 1947 in Mitchell County, he was the son of the late Helen Autry Pitman and Rev. Lee Jim Pitman. David was a member of Gospel Independent Baptist Church where funeral services will be held Saturday, June 3, 2023 at 12:00 P.M. by Rev. Robert Greene and Dr. Russell Bell. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Shirley Thomas Pitman; his daughter, Teresa P. Harris and husband, Ricky of Henderson; his two sons, David Ernest Pitman, Jr. and wife, Kimberly of Henderson and Jeffrey Thomas Pitman and wife, Yuki of Fort Mill, SC; nine grandchildren, Brandon Harris and wife, Samantha, Cassie Hoy and husband, Caleb, Jonathan Edwards, Walker Pitman, Miku Pitman, Arabella Pitman, Ai Pitman, Riyo Pitman and Misa Lou Pitman; one great grandson, Hunter Harris; four sisters, Betty Hite and husband, Terry and Patti Hite and husband, Edward, both of Clarksville, VA, Bev Candler of Yuma, AZ and Evelyn Dickerson of Henderson; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Roma Jones. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 11:00 A.M. at Gospel Independent Baptist Church. Serving as active pallbearers will be his nephews, Donnie Riggan, Michael Hite, Eddie Hite, Donald Duke, Ronald Shealy, James Shealy, Jonathan Thomas, Joseph Thomas and Dan Thomas. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be nephew Russell Candler, Edward Hite, Terry Hite, Danny Thomas, Charles Jones and Bob Williamson. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made in memory of David Pitman, Sr. to Gospel Independent Baptist Church Youth Group, PO Box 1074, Henderson, NC 27536.
