HENDERSON-Deborah Jean “Debbie” Thomas Cannady of Henderson died on Saturday, September 24, 2022 at Duke University Hospital. Born in Vance County on October 15, 1952, she was the daughter of the late Barbara Jean Williamson Thomas and Robert Earl “Jim” Thomas. Debbie was a graduate of Vance Senior High School and later studied at Vance-Granville Community College. Her early employment was working with Dr. Joseph Hunt, Dentistry in Henderson. Following Dr. Hunt’s accidental death, she went to work as office manager at Central Carolina Physical Therapy of Henderson and Durham where after many years she recently retired. Debbie was an active person who loved to travel. She especially enjoyed the beaches at the North Carolina Coast and those at North Myrtle Beach, and the historical trips to Savannah, GA and Charleston, SC where she took many historical tours and attended some plays. An earlier highlight in traveling was a trip to the countries of Greece and Turkey following the Biblical trail of one of Paul’s missionary journeys. Debbie very much enjoyed working with plants in her home and garden. She was a cat lover, and avid reader of a variety of books and often shared them with friends and relatives. She was an active member of Nut Bush Presbyterian church, the church of her childhood, and was a kind and generous person and gave of her time and gifts to charitable endeavors. Graveside funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 28, 2022, at 2:00 pm at Nut Bush Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Dave Vellenga. She is survived by her husband of 42 years, Samuel Hilman Cannady of the home; two brothers, Arnold Hammett Thomas (Margie) and Charles Jason “Chet” Thomas; nephew, Arnold Hammett Thomas, Jr.; and niece, Amy Margaret Thomas all of Townsville; three aunts, Shirley Williamson Adams of Raleigh, Mary Williamson Norwood (Chuck) of Townsville, and Carolyn Williamson Harrell of Raleigh; and her brother-in-law, John Fulghum Cannady (Elaine) of Henderson.
