Dolores Jensen Grissom

KITTRELL - Dolores Jensen Grissom, 91, of 140 E. Main Street, died Wednesday, November 27, 2024 at her home. Born July 28, 1933 in Brainerd Minnesota, she was the daughter of the late Sue Stanton Griffin and Ira Jensen and was the widow of Herbert Millard “Big Man” Grissom. Dolores was a faithful member of Fuller Chapel Christian Church for many years and served in many roles, among them was, choir director, deaconess, Sunday School teacher, and Vacation Bible School director. She loved her church and her church family dearly. She was never happier than when she was serving her Lord Jesus Christ. She was employed as secretary at Zeb Vance School and as a clerical worker for Rose's Stores Inc. She worked hard on the farm beside her husband and children all while harvesting fresh vegetables from her garden to feed her family. Her greatest passion and joy were preparing Sunday meals for her family and caring for grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was affectionately called “Granny” by many children far beyond her own grandkids. Her perseverance was evident during her illness as she diligently worked toward her goal of independence. Her progress amazed her family, her physical therapist, and her doctors alike. She was an amazing woman who inspired all who knew her. Funeral services will be Saturday, November 30, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Fuller Chapel Christian Church conducted by Rev. Tammy Ayscue. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. She is survived by one daughter, Becky G. Duke (Danny) of Kittrell; three sons, Herbie Grissom (Paula) of Kittrell, Al Grissom (Faye) of Henderson and Tony Grissom of the home; one sister, Betty J. Grissom of Henderson; and one brother, Johnny R. Griffin (Julie) of Wilson; ten grandchildren, Bob Moss (Anita), Rod Moss (Tina), Everett Grissom (Jen), Scott Grissom (Joy), Trenton Grissom (Sherry), Adriene Myers, Andrew Grissom, Anthony Grissom, Anna Kathryn Grissom, and Alex Grissom; eight great grandchildren, Jessica Moss (Nathan), Olivia Moss (Sage), Reese Moss, Hailey Grissom, Whitt Grissom, Clara Grissom, Tyler Myers, and Elle Myers; two great great grandchildren, Zane Hicks and Maven Hicks; one step grandchild, Aaron Stainback; five step great grandchildren, Lillian Stainback, Addison Stainback, Ace Stainback, London Stainback, and Elizabeth Stainback; and a special great niece, Shyanne Mosny (Chris) and children, Allie Kay and Mason. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by a great grandson, Tyler Moss; a step granddaughter, Ryan Stainback; and two sisters Charlene J. Hanford, and Loretta J. Bowes. The family will receive friends Friday November 29, 2024 at the home from 12:00 until 7:00 PM. Serving as pallbearers will be her grandsons. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Fuller Chapel Youth Fund, 1470 N. Lynnbank Rd., Henderson NC, 27537.
