HENDERSON- Donald Wayne Peoples, Sr., 79, of Waddill Street, died Tuesday, April 26, 2022 at his home. Born in Vance County on February 26, 1943, he was the son of the late Albert Morgan Peoples and Virginia Raines Peoples. He was a retired insurance agent and a member of Carey Baptist Church. A graveside funeral service will be held Friday, April 29, 2022 at 11:00 AM in the cemetery of Carey Baptist Church by Rev. Frank Ellington and Pastor Caleb Alford. Donald is survived by his wife, Betty Ellington Peoples, of the home; his daughter, Cheryl P. Stainback, and husband, Ronnie of Middleburg; his son, Donnie Peoples of Charlotte; and five grandchildren, Trey Stainback, Ryan Stainback, Cole Peoples, Landon Peoples and Cora Peoples. In his spare time, Grandy (as he was known to everyone) loved attending his grandsons' and granddaughter's sporting events. He was known to be an overzealous supporter of their teams! Grandy was an amazing grandfather and father who always gave so much to those he loved. If he knew people needed help, he was always there to provide it and loved making people happy. On his work routes he was known as Candyman because he made sure all the kids got candy from him and later at baseball games he became known as Bubblegum man because he always had pockets full of bubblegum, enough for everyone around him. He was also an avid UNC Chapel Hill fan although later in life he was known to pull for NC State as well. The family wishes to give special thanks to Community Home Care and Hospice; loving caregivers Elizabeth Whitley, Battista Green, Donna Newton, April Lloyd, Carolyn Pettaway and Lisa Terry; and amazing friend, James Bullock. The family will receive friends following the service on Friday at Carey Baptist Church. Serving as pallbearers will be his grandsons, Trey Stainback, Ryan Stainback, Cole Peoples and Landon Peoples. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Community Home Care and Hospice, 946 West Andrews Ave. Suite S., Henderson, NC, 27536.
