Donna Overby Abbott

KNIGHTDALE – Donna Lyn Overby Abbott, 65, of Windward Passage, died Monday, December 9, 2024, at Rex Hospital after a long battle with Breast Cancer. Donna was born into the loving, small town home of Kathleen Tomlinson Overby and the late Marvin Durant Overby Jr. She spent her childhood in Axtell, NC with her sassy little dog Trixie Lyn, her beloved horse Patchie, and many good times with her lifelong best friend Brigitte. Throughout her childhood and adult life, she proudly and lovingly attended Browns Baptist Church, surrounded by generations of family whom she cherished very, very much. Donna attended Warren Academy, later attending Peace College and Atlantic Christian College graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Caring for others was her passion. She never missed a day without making sure everyone around her was well taken care of. There was no Boo Boo she could not cure! She worked for 43 years in the birth center at Rex Hospital in Raleigh, caring for countless new mothers and babies throughout her long career. Donna is survived by her husband Durward of Knightdale, son Daniel of Raleigh, and her mother Kay Overby of Warrenton. Additionally, she is survived by her aunt Eula Allen Ballard, and her cousins Pam, Kitty, Rob, Debra, Marcile, Susan, Sandra, Betsy, Jennifer, and her late cousin Rusty, all of whom she held dear throughout her whole life. Donna was a loving mother, a caring daughter, and a dedicated nurse. Please join us in celebrating her life. Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 14, 2024, at 1:00 P.M. at Browns Baptist Church by Rev. Jake Roberson. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12:00 P.M. until 1:00 P.M. at Browns Baptist Church. Serving as Pall Bearers will be Allen Medlin, Dennis Abbott, Mike Etheridge, Michael Etheridge, Brandon Gordon, Jackson Gordon, Joe Langston, and Jesse Ray Pegram.
