HIGHLAND PARK, IL- Doris Jones McBride, 88, of Henderson, NC (and recently, Highland Park, IL), passed away peacefully on September 23,2023. Born in Thomasville to the late Lilly Wagner Jones and Dillon Jones, Doris was a graduate of Thomasville High School and Woman's College. Doris is predeceased by her husband of 66 years, John Thomas McBride, and sister Peggy Jones, of Wytheville, VA. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Kimberly and Fred Spicer, Jr., of Highland Park, IL, by her sister-in-law Donese McBride and nieces and nephews. She worked as an administrative assistant at Kennametal for many years, and made many life-long friends there. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Henderson, and a member of the "Library Ladies", an informal group of dedicated volunteers at the Perry Memorial Library. Family and friends fondly remember Doris as kind, quick with a smile, one who made friends easily, and always looked forward to socializing. An avid and skilled bridge player, she always looked forward to weekly games with dear friends, some of whom played bridge together for fifty years. She was a voracious reader and enjoyed swapping book recommendations with neighbors. Kim and Fred would like to extend special gratitude to the countless friends and neighbors in Henderson who provided Doris with loving friendship, support, meals, rides to appointments and frequent visits. The outpouring of support in her time of need is proof of how much she was loved by those that knew her. Most recently, we appreciate and are eternally grateful to the kind and caring staff of Sunrise of Highland Park, and Guardian Hospice, who took such loving care of Doris. In accordance with Doris' wishes, no service will be held. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to a charity of one's choice.
