Doris Grissom Saunders

PINETOPS- Doris Furman Grissom Saunders, 97, died Thursday, December 12, 2024 at The Bridges of Hendricks Creek. Born June 6, 1927 in Vance County, she was the daughter of the late Effie Reames Grissom and Newman Clifton Grissom, Sr. She was a member of Durham Memorial Baptist Church and Fuller Chapel Christian Church. She retired from Monsanto where she was a research secretary. Funeral services will be held Monday, December 16, 2024 at 3:00 P.M. at Fuller Chapel Christian Church by Rev. Tammy Ayscue. Burial will follow at Sunset Gardens. Doris is survived by her daughter, Audrey Dianne Gerr of Fort Mills, SC; her son, Dr. Howard Brady Saunders and wife, Patricia of Pinetops; five grandchildren, Kenny Gerr, Heather Gerr Blaylock, Dr. Adam Brady Saunders and wife, Amanda, Bethany Saunders Kohn and husband, Bradley, and Rebecca Sherron Saunders; and two great-grandchildren, Dashy Kohn and Lauren Kohn. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Howard Franklin Saunders and two brothers, N.C. Grissom, Jr., and Durwood Belmont Grissom. The family expresses special thanks to the staff of The Bridges of Hendricks Creek and The Jane in Tarboro for their excellent care. The family will receive friends prior to the service on Monday at Fuller Chapel from 2:00 P.M. until 3:00 P.M. Serving as pallbearers will be Dr. Howard Brady Saunders, Dr. Adam Brady Saunders, Bradley Kohn, T.T. Beckham, III, Thildred “Buster” Beckham and Brian Beckham. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Fuller Chapel Christian Church, 1470 North Lynnbank Road, Henderson, NC 27537.
