Dorothy Ayscue (Dot) Lassiter, 94, a beloved Wife, Mother, Grandmother, and Great Grandmother died, peacefully at her home Thursday, July 22, 2021.She was born on September 17, 1926 in Vance County, and was the daughter of the late William Robert Ayscue and Mary Hughes Ayscue. She was a graduate of Aycock High School and Henderson Business School. Dot was an Executive Secretary at Rose's Stores, Inc. for 26 years. She also served as Deputy Clerk of Court in Vance County until her retirement. She was a long-time member of the First Congregational Church where she served as a Deacon, Women's Fellowship President, Church Treasurer and other positions in the church.
Dot was an avid reader, great bridge player and a loving friend to all who knew her. She loved her God, family and friends and will be missed. Dot was the happiest when surrounded by her family but especially at family holiday meals where she cooked everyone's favorite foods.
A graveside funeral service will be held Sunday, July 25, 2021 at 3:00 PM in the New Sandy Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, 1699 Weldon's Mill Road, Henderson, NC27537. She is survived by her daughter, Mary Jo Wilson (Fred), son, Robert F. Lassiter (Marilyn), all of Henderson, daughter-in-law, Krista P. Lassiter of Wilson; seven grandchildren, Jay Lassiter (Ginger), Mandy Sullivan (Wayne), Paige Hill (Wes), Michael Harrison (Lisa), Bill Harrison (Stephanie), Jennifer Alessi (Stephen), Kate Parker, (Josh) and two step-grandchildren, Dr. Rick Wilson and Daniel Wilson (Elizabeth), and eight great-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Joseph F. (Joe) Lassiter, her son, Larry W. Lassiter, and a great granddaughter, Abigail Hope Sullivan and four siblings, Ethel Ayscue, James Ayscue, Nick Ayscue, and Rebecca Camden.
The family wishes to express a special thanks to her caregivers, Queen Coleman, Libby Reid, Cynthia Hargrove and Penny Carpenter for their excellent care and love.
The family will receive friends immediately after the graveside service and other times at the home of Mary Jo and Fred Wilson at 381 Bellwood Drive. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to New Sandy Creek Cemetery Fund, 1699 Weldon's Mill Road, Henderson, NC27537, or Perry Memorial Library, 205 Breckenridge Street, Henderson, NC27536.
