HENDERSON-Dorothy Wester Knott, widow of Gaither Wilson Knott, Jr. peacefully passed away on Monday, November 3, 2014. A native of Vance County she was born March 15, 1916, to Alfred Benjamin Wester and Lottie Cooper Daniel Wester, she was preceded in death by her parents, and siblings Alfred B. Wester, Jr. Charlotte Wester Cate, and William Daniel Wester, with whom she worked for many years.
She is survived by her nieces and nephews, William Daniel Wester, Jr., Susan Wester OLeary, Alfred Benjamin Wester, III, John Perry Wester, Rebecca Wester Irvin, Jeanne Wester-Mora, Carolyn Wester, Walter Cate, Dorothy Cate Hamby, Judy Cate, William Hight, and Ruth Hight Brummitt; and 24 great nieces and nephews. The family wishes to express gratitude to her special caregivers, Virgie Hargrove, Annette Rogers, Patricia Hargrove and Queen Coleman.
Dorothy pursued a career in the insurance business after attending Womens College of the University of North Carolina in Greensboro and served as Vice President of Wester Insurance Agency for many years. She was also active in the operation of her husbands business, Interiors of Henderson, which dutifully served Henderson for many years.
Dorothy was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church and rarely missed a service until she was unable to attend due to health reasons. The First Baptist Church and her family were sources of great pride to her.
Dorothy was physically active well into her 90s and could be seen mowing her 15 acre front lawn, an activity she thoroughly enjoyed and she referred to as being "tractor-stracted". Dorothy will long be remembered for her constant optimism and genuine personality. Dorothy never met a stranger and was referred to as "Aunt Dot" by generations of family friends. Dorothy never uttered a complaint in her entire life and appreciated every act of kindness shown her.
A memorial service will be held Monday, November 10, 2014 at 2:00 PM in the sanctuary of First Baptist Church of Henderson by Dr. Ronald S. Cava and Dr. Marion D. Lark.The family will receive friends prior to the service on Monday from 12:30 till 2:00 PM in the parlor of First Baptist Church.
