BRIDGEWATER, VA- Dorothy Myers Stafford, 98, of Bridgewater, Virginia, departed this earthly life on May 2, 2011.Born in 1913 in Broadway, Virginia, she was the sole survivor of John C. Myers and Ottie Showalter Myers.Mrs. Stafford attended Bridgewater College and graduated from Madison College in 1933.After teaching high school in Richmond, Virginia, her marriage to Thomas H. Stafford took her to Henderson, NC.During her fifty years there she was a partner in her husbands photography business, Stafford Photography, and later became a social worker.Upon retirement, she moved back to "the Valley" and spent eighteen happy years there.
A graveside funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday at Elmwood Cemetery by Reverend Keith Benz.
The family will receive friends in the parlor of First Presbyterian Church immediately following the graveside service.
She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, Thomas Hugh Stafford, and four siblings.Surviving to cherish her memory is a son, Thomas H. Stafford, Jr. and wife, Judy, of Raleigh; a daughter, Kay Stafford Tims and husband, Roger, of Roanoke, Virginia; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to a charity of ones choice.
