HENDERSON- Dr. Roy Everett De Brand, 75, of 1851 Parker Lane, died Tuesday, February 6, 2018 at Duke University Medical Center.Born in Portsmouth, VA on October 28, 1942 he was the son of the late Everett F. De Brand and Mary Saxon De Brand. He obtained his Doctorate of Philosophy and Doctorate of Theology from Southwestern Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, TX. He retired with over forty years in the ministry, having served as senior minister at numerous churches including Broadway Baptist Church Ft. Worth, TX, First Baptist Church Richmond, TX, First Baptist Church Americus, GA, and Franklin Baptist Church Franklin, VA.Dr. De Brand was also a retired professor, having taught homiletics at North American Baptist Seminary in Sioux Falls, SD, Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Wake Forest and Campbell University Divinity School in Buies Creek and was also the author of seven theological books. He was a member of First Baptist Church Henderson where he served as a deacon and formerly served as interim Senior Minister.
A service of celebration will be held Sunday at 3:00 PM at First Baptist Church Henderson by Dr. Ronald S. Cava, Dr. Marion D. Lark, Dr. Furman Hewitt, and Rev. Amy Starr Russell.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn H. De Brand of the home; his son, Brian E. De Brand and wife, Olivia of Indian Trail; his daughter, De Ann D. Lyda and husband, James of Woodbridge, VA; three grandsons,Carter Lyda, Brady De Brand and Colby De Brand; two sisters, Barbara D. Mc Gee of New Port Richie, FL and MaryAnn D. Davis of Frisco, TX; a brother, Stephen W. De Brand and wife, Graciela of Port Charlotte, FL; and a brother in law, Billy M. Hayes and wife, Mickey of Salinas, CA.
The family will receive friends following the service on Sunday in the fellowship of First Baptist Church.
