March 9, 2013, at Rex Hospital in Raleigh.Born on October 23, 1938 in Johnston County, he was the son of the late Oscar Garner and Stella Rose Garner.He was a Veteran of the United States Marines and was a retired Cable Forman for Carolina Telephone Company.He attended South Henderson Pentecostal Holiness Church.He also coached baseball for over 20 years for the Henderson Rec. Department, and helped host A & B bus tours.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2:00 PM at South Henderson Pentecostal Holiness Church by the Rev. Frank Sossamon and the Rev. Gary Harper..Burial will follow in Sunset Gardens.
He is survived by his wife, Cynthia Roadifer Garner of the home; one son, Steve Garner of Wilmington; one sister, Ermine G. Marshall of Norfolk, VA; and two granddaughters.He was preceded in death by one son, Trent Ray Garner.
The family will receive friends Tuesday night from 7:00 until 8:30 PM at J. M. White Funeral Home.At other times they will be at the home at 295 Georges Lane, Kittrell.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Durwood Daniels, Donny Crowder, Pete Worrell, Jim Mateo, Wayne Roadifer, W.C. Harris, Tom Howard, and Pat Reese.
Honorary pallbearers will be Rays co-workers at Carolina Telephone/Sprint.
Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to South Henderson Pentecostal Holiness Church, 905 Americal Road, Henderson NC 27537.
